«Freedom Convoy» arrives in Ottawa — live broadcast
//2022-01-29
Today, Saturday, January 29, 2022, the Freedom Convoy of tens of thousands of trucks arrives in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. The convoy was a truckers' response to the Canadian government's decision to require truckers crossing the US-Canada border to be vaccinated.
Live broadcast from Parliament Hill is also expected. That is where the Freedom Convoy is heading.
For several days now, the «Freedom Convoy» has been moving across Canada — an unprecedented rally of truckers who disagree with the vaccination policy. The Canada-US border is the world's longest unguarded border. However, recently a law came into force prohibiting drivers who are not vaccinated against covid from crossing it. As a result, truckers turned their trucks around and from all over the vast country went to Ottawa to express their dissatisfaction.
In settlements, the «Freedom Convoy» is met by residents waving flags and posters that say «Thank you!», «We support 100%!», they carry food to the stopping points of the columns.
The Ottawa police, meanwhile, are on high alert. Law enforcement officers reported that the «Freedom Convoy» itself is peaceful, but aggressive people have joined it and are calling for the capture of the parliament building, similar to how the United States tried to capture the White House in January 2021.
