Rosie Hummingbird Nest Live Cam
Rosie Hummingbird Nest Live Cam: Rosie is an Allen's/Rufous hummingbird hybrid believed to be an offspring of Bella Hummingbird. This is Rosie's second season nesting in this ficus tree and her second clutch of the current season. Her first clutch - Blossom & Banji - fledged on March 4, 2016. She started building this nest in the ficus before those chicks even fledged.
Rosie, like other hummingbirds, can raise up to five broods each year in a nest about the size of half a golf ball. Each of her eggs are slightly larger than a Tic Tac. After about 15-18 days, the chicks hatch blind, naked, and helpless so Rosie feeds them a diet of insects and nectar. The babies fledge 23-28 days from hatch and are ready to discover the joys of flight.
