The Monkey Center is located on the eastern stretch of Mount Kashiwara in Sumoto City on Awaji Island. It was first opened in 1967 and currently has about 300 animals. The monkeys of Awaji Island are «well-mannered» and very sociable, giving visitors the opportunity to walk along the trail without fear of the monkeys jumping on them and stealing their belongings.
