Interesting shots with the webcam: 1I really can't see, but today (Feb 2, 2024) it seems one of the birds is setting on an egg possibly? Spreading the wings out and roosting and looking at a spot in the nest just out of view. Does anyone know for sure? I love watching these birds! To whoever provides it and maintains it Thank You!
In the past few years, apart from occasionally roosting at night, once the young have fully fledged, they aren’t seen on camera again. This evening, there was obvious niggling aggression between two of the three birds on the nest.
We wait to see if “mum” overwinters in Germany, as she has been doing in recent years? A screenshot of her, in quite deep snow, once featured as one of my Christmas cards!
From the shadow that is occasionally visible, the nest appears to be atop a very, very tall, industrial-type chimney. After the breeding season, the ground below must be covered in guarno - a great fertilizer but not so good for camera lenses! Perhaps the camera should be mounted a little higher, next year.
Watching and waiting - they should be flying off pretty soon now! Wondering how high up this nest is? I wouldn't want to be that person up on the ladder earlier this spring! I was so devastated when the one chick was booted from the nest. Mother Nature is hard to watch sometimes.
It wouldn't surprise me if a parent threw out the weakling. It happened at this nest with a previous brood; then, the 3 bigger youngsters had been tormenting their smaller sibling & it seemed a kindness to end its misery. This year, the 4th chick seemed quite feisty.
Please do not break my heart and tell me the 4th and smallest of the young storks (who seemed just fine), was not rescued by whoever was in the May video cleaning around the nest area, and removing debris from the baby storks themselves. He was wearing a blue glove on his left hand. The title of that video was "Rescue Operation."
I emailed several weeks ago asking, and I'm asking again: What became of the 4th, the smallest of the young storks. I saw a still partial picture weeks ago of what looked like a man reaching into the nest, putting a blue vest-type cover on the smallest of the 4 storks. Is this accurate?? Was the smallest of the 4 young storks removed from the nest for its safety and health?? Please respond to my email!
One parent threw it out of the nest.
I am worried and concerned. Where is the fourth, the smallest of the baby storks??
Why am I seeing only three of them in the nest?
What happened to the 4 chick?? I only see 3 now.
Chollymum - I wondered about the 5th egg as well. I thought it had cracked and we were going to have 5th chick. But no. Did rewind several times but could not work out what happened. Very sad - and puzzling. We do have 3 good sized chicks to watch - and 1 quite a bit smaller - and I shall worry about the little one.....!!
The 5th egg seemed to disappear 2 days ago - does anyone know if it hatched, was broken (unlikely) or was evicted by one of the adults?
4 May - aaahhh - now we've got 4 little chicks - and the sun is shining so it's lovely and warm.
2 May; during last night 1 May, or early hours of 2 May - we got another chick - now there's 3 in the nest..sweet.
29 April - 2 chicks !! - 1 little one just escaped egg mid-afternoon to join the first one. (Shame no time stamp on this cam). And tomorrow......
26 April 2023. Well, we have a repeat of last year - there are 5 eggs again this spring. Fingers crossed everyone.
The fight wuse cool.
I am worried about the plastic bag in the nest. Could it harm the parents or their offspring?
What's happened with the web cam - we can't see the complete nest now, or be able to count the eggs and watch the chicks hatch. Oh - so frustrating - who moved it !!!
Can someone climb up and adjust the webcam before Mum starts laying any eggs....please, please.........
The web cam seems to have been moved forward so now can only see half of the nest
I see she's back (I presume it is the same stork) but, today, she's limping. Hope she'll be Ok. Sad to see her make the familiar head-back, clacking greeting, on returning to an empty nest.
I repeat my past question: Can anyone tell me if many storks overwinter in Germany?
The female stork has not migrated for several years, staying at the Linheim nest despite snow and ice. The nest appears to be deserted now. Does anyone know if something has happened to her, if she has migrated this year, or if she has moved to another nest at Lindheim?
It seems that the 4th little storklet didn't make it out of the egg - but the egg definitely did have a hole pecked from the inside - such a shame. And the fifth egg showed no sign at all of hatching. So 3 OK - and 2 not successful.
I can not see the fourth little storklet
4 May late afternoon - there's a hole in the fourth egg - the fourth little storklet trying to nibble the egg and hatch out. Then parent sits on the nest and we cannnot see anything... !!
... and the fourth is being born!
3 May - how lovely - there's 3 little fluffy storklets - cute.
1 May - look, look - 2 baby chicks this morning; and then
later this afternoon - a third little chick.
We've got three little storklets in the nest.
5 April - well, now there are 5 eggs - just like last year. Now all these two can do is sit and wait ...and wait.
3 April - another egg - now there are 4. Last year there were 5 in total. Will there be another egg ?
April 2 - At dawn - early hours - poor sitting stork is covered in snow - and there are 3 eggs. Hope the eggs are kept warm. Strange scene - fields covered in snow. Fingers crossed this won't last long.
Looks as though they are getting the nest ready.)
There seems to be a lot of plastic in the nest, anyone else noticed?
Great live stream of the storks! Our grandkids love it, and so do we! Thank you!
Sunday 9 May 6.0 pm; that third chick, the youngest, seems to be struggling; the bigger ones keep lying on it, and it does not seem to be eating much, or thriving. I am worried. Hope it survives. (Why are my comments not appearing ?)
Friday 7 May - 2.30 pm - another chick just emerging from egg - another cutie; that's 3 chicks now.
Tuesday 4 May - there are now 2 chicks hatched. Cute.
There's a chick - a chick - aaahhh. Sunday afternoon 3.30pm I saw little chick just hatched. Wonderful. Now for the other 4.
One's just hatched - tiny little chick - Sunday afternoon 2 May -3.30 ish pm - aaahhhh.
There are 5 eggs in the nest - 5 !!
13 April; 2.30 pm (Frence). There are FIVE - 5 - eggs ! Oh I hope they all hatch, but that's not likely is it ? Some of the other nests with webcams have no storks using them - which is not a good sign is it ? Early on this morning there were both parents sitting side by side on nest - sweet.
I have thought, for some time, that the female who overwintered at the nest may have been the youngest survivor of last year’s brood. If so, I believe that she & her partner don't yet have names. Having watched some of their attempts at nest -building, I suggest something similar to ‘Laurel’ & ‘Hardy’!
I presume that most of the local storks have flown south so which one is still using the nest? Do many, if any, storks overwinter in Germany?
I never see them getting fed
What's happened?
